Actor Shanmugasundaram is no more

Veteran actor Shanmugasundaram has passed away today due to prolonged illness.

Shanmugasundaram made his acting debut with the Sivaji Ganesan starrer 'Ratha Thilagam that released in 1963. He was acting in negative roles in the films of Black and white era. In the 1980s he emerged as a character artist. Especially his rol as Kanaga's father in the 1989 blockbuster 'Karagattakaran' was an important turning point in his career. Since then he kept acting until his recently.

In 2007 he played a hilarious cameo role in director Venkat Prabhu's debut film 'Chennai 600028'. That gave another image makeover for him. He has acted in such comical cameo roles in many other films including 'Tamizh Padam'. He was last seen in STR's 'AAA'.
