Yesteryears' most dreaded screen villain, One of the most prominent faces of Indian cinema for over six decades, Pran Kishan Sikand or better known by his mononym Pran dies in Lilavathi hospital in Mumbai today. He was 93.
Last month, Pran was conferred with the most coveted Indian film award, the Dada Saheb Phalke award for his services to the Indian film industry. He started his career as a Punjabi hero and later stepped into Bollywood to establish himself as one of the most renowned actors for almost three generations. He acted in over 400 films in several Indian languages including Hindi, Telugu, Punjabi, Bengali etc. He will be remembered for his roles in Telugu films Kodamasimham and Simhasanam.
Pran had a great screen chemistry with heroes including Dilip Kumar, Shammi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan etc. He was instrumental in Amitabh getting his role in Zanjeer and also played the legendary role of Share Khan in the movie. Pran epitomized sophistication and subtle cruelty of the 60's villain.
He is survived by his wife Shukla, daughter Pinky, and sons Arvind and Sunil.
