Making a film based on a real person isn’t that of an easy task. However, Rakyesh Omprakash Mehrawill agree to it. The director who is making an biopic on an Indian athlete has worked on ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’(BMB) script for one and a half years before it went on floors.

Milkha has been at every stage of the film and wanted the best for the project. Apparently, the former athlete wants his biopic to match the standards of ‘The Jesse Owens Story’, a TV movie that was based on the African-American sprinter

Said a source, "Milkha Singh hardly watches movies and has seen a handful in his life. But one of his favourite films is The Jesse Owens Story (TJQS, TV movie, 1984). He feels the way the life of Jesse Owens has been depicted in the film has set a standard for films about sports-persons. He wanted it to be the benchmark for his own biopic."

When contacted, Milkha confirmed, "Yes. The Jessie Owens Story is my favourite sports film. It’s a great film to watch."

For the records, Owens was one of the first African-Americans to run in the Olympics. He participated in the tournament during a time when racism was commonplace in America.

Releasing on 12 July, BMB stars Farhan Akhtar and Sonam Kapoor. It has been shot in Firozabad and Ladakh.
