Mirchi Movies Limited, the entertainment wing of the Times Group, has recently entered Kollywood with a lot of long term plans. The company functions as an independent production house and focuses on owning motion picture content and marketing, distributing and exploiting the same in India and globally beyond India.

As part of its foray into South India, Mirchi Movies Limited has tied up with Prakash Raj’s Duet Movies and Moser Baer India Limited to co-produce its first Tamil feature film, ‘Vellitherai,’ directed by Viji.

Says Mr. Munish Purii, Chief Operating Officer, Mirchi Movies Limited, ‘We are delighted to co-produce 'Vellitherai', which is the first of a slate of film projects that we will launch in the Tamil language. The talent of actors and technicians in the Tamil film industry is remarkable. We are in the process of developing three more Tamil film projects’.

Mirchi Movies Limited has signed Milind Rau as a director for two films, the first of which will be a Tamil romantic comedy called ‘Kaadhal 2 Kalyanam’. Milind comes with an extremely credible background, having worked as an associate to Mani Ratnam on four films, including the super hit ‘Guru’. ‘Kaadhal 2 Kalyanam’ is expected to roll in early 2008.

Mirchi Movies Limited has also acquired the Tamil remake rights of the biggest Malayalam hit of 2007, ‘Chocolate’.
