Prabhudhev: I'm A Newcomer

The best dancer of the country Prabhudheva, who made a mark in Bollywood as a hit director with his action films, is all set to showcase his first Hindi romantic film ‘Ramaiya Vastavaiya’ (remake of Telugu superhit film ‘Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana’) starring newcomer Girish Kumar and Shruti Haasan. IndiaGlitz got candid had a little chat with this talented director.

This is your first directorial debut film in south?

It is a romantic film. Just like ‘Rowdy Rathore’ and ‘Wanted’ it is also a mass entertaining film. Romance will be there.

Why you wanted to make your first movie now?

More than me the producer wanted to make. They saw the film and the rights are brought and also then I came on board then he asked me to see the film. He was not aware that I only directed that film.

How Girish happened in the film?

We also wanted a newcomer and in the south film the boy (then) was also new Siddharth.

We heard that Girish was trained for a year for the film?

I don’t know Girish at that time. So I told his father not to send him abroad for the training, better to learn Bollywood dancing. Just 8 months for dancing he was trained.

In 2005 your film came now again its Hindi remake. How much the story changed?

But the emotion is same. Indian father mother is always same. We did small changes. Songs are totally different. This film is all about emotion that we didn’t change but fun loving only.

How Shruti was casted opposite Girish?

As I told Girish is a new boy. So we thought everyone else should be well known. So we can concentrate on Girish more.

Prabhudheva means Action and hit movies; so do you think people will accept a romance film from you?

As a choreographer I am a dancer. I am more related to romance only. But people accepted me an action director. With the work producer is happy and let see what audience says.

How different working with new comer and superstar?

It is different. When working with the superstar the expectation is huge. Here working with the new comer it is good.

How much he took time to sync with your direction?

We started the film the second half first and finished the remaining half. In that we needed a green village. And then in the first half he was better.

Where the shooting happened?

Near Pune. Bore village

Your first Hindi directorial film ‘Wanted’ was huge success and before that Salman’s career was not in good shape? So do you give credit to yourself for that?

He is superstar. Ups and downs happen. If somebody else would have directed then also it would have worked.

What is the scope of dance in the film?

The song goes with the film because we are telling the story in the song.

Whom do you will choose as a choreographer or as a director or as a actor?

Choreographer. I am known for my dance only.

Don’t you think like casting yourself?

No. People like to see big stars not me.

Are we going to see you in the film doing acting?

It is there in the film Jadoo Ki Jappi which is a promotional song.

Which superstar is easy to work with?

Every superstar.

You are telling diplomatic answer?

I have to work na. I am a newcomer.

You have done south films which are hit, Hindi films which are hit still you think of yourself as new comer?

In film industry every Friday decides. How to deal with the Friday I have no idea.

Do you have tension during the release period?

After the editing it starts till the film releases.

You are known as man of fewer words? Why you are so shy?

I am more open on the sets than in front of media because I don’t know what to talk to
media.

You have made this film in Telugu and now in Hindi which one you liked?

We have worked hard on this film. Producer is satisfied.

Future projects?

Rambo Rajkumar, Ajay Devgn’s film and one film with Tips starring Salman Khan.
