Mani Sharma in his elements
Saturday, January 20, 2007 • Tamil Comments

Mani Sharma, known for his foot-taping numbers, teams up with director Suresh for Vijayakanth starrer Sabari.

Quite popular for his peppy beats, Mani Sharma has managed to render a catchy album, keeping in mind the mass image of 'Captain'.

A mix of peppy and melodious songs, Sabari comes as a whiff of fresh air among the recent Vijayakanth songs. Sabari has five numbers with the likes of Tippu, Sujatha, Kalyani, Rahul Nambiar rendering them. Kabilan and Na Muthukumar have penned the lyrics for the album.

Aavanna Akkanna (Tippu, Sujatha)

Mani Sharma makes a beginning with a melodious tune. Soft to the ears, the songs have good instrumentation. Reminding one of a recent Telugu number, the song gets a lift, thanks to Tippu's voice. Mani Sharma could probably have avoided the chorus in between.

Ossama Ossama (A V Ramanan, Naveen, Rahul Nambiar)

A peppy song, it has all the ingredients to top the charts. Rendered in a very energetic fashion by Ramanan, it has a vibrant instrumentation. Since the movie is supposedly about doctors, lyricist Kabilan has used words like X-ray and ECG for the song. The rap in the interlude is catchy.

Oru Murai Sonnal (Naveen, Bhargavi)

A mix of reggae, rap and pop, the song begins with mild instrumentation. It shifts gear in between and goes on to take speed.

Bhargavi's voice has enough force. Unfortunately, the instruments seem to dominate the lyrics. However, it is definitely a foot-taping number that would make one shake his legs.

Aalayamani (Kalyani)

A soft melody in the album, the song is based on lullaby. Mani Sharma has used the likes of guitar, sitar and other stringed instruments well. Easy on the ear, the song has temple bells accompanying the lyrics, giving the listeners a fresh feel. Kalyani's voice fits the bill well.

Om Enum Manthirathaal (Ranjith, Naveen, Rahul Nambiar)

Supposedly the title song of the movie. It introduces the hero. Beginning  with the chanting of a mantra, it sings paeans of the hero. Describing him as the saviour of the universe, the song has loud instruments accompanying it. This song is sure to find a place straightaway among the Captain fans.
