Are there any similarities between the two mega-budgeted movies of the top two superstars of Tollywood this season? That Sardaar Gabbar Singh and Brahmotsavam both had Kajal Aggarwal cast opposite Pawan and Mahesh, respectively, is not a substantial reason. They both have two strong similarities going for them and these are: their pre-release hype was watered down by their respective music albums, and two, they both had a heavy dose of familiar content taking the zing out.

Unlike the earlier albums for Power Star, this time, DSP had to make do with modest hits. If Jalsa and Gabbar Singh were run-away hits, SGS' audio was preparing to bite the dust even before the film's release. Ditto with Brahmotsavam. Mickey J Meyer made do with a so-so album, although the trailer presented stunning visuals. It turns out that the film too is stunning visually, thanks to Thota Tharani and Rathanavelu.

As for a sense of deja vu, both the Bobby film and the Srikanth Addala directorial give loads of that. In the case of SGS, the trailer itself revealed that the plot was hackneyed. In the case of Brahmotsavam, the tender family emotions in the screenplay remind one of a few family entertainers of the past.

Of course, Addala has, with his narration style, given value addition. Two love stories in family backdrop is a good idea.

While Pawan missed the train this summer, will Mahesh rock the BO? Wait and watch.
