The Supreme Court has convicted ADMK General Secretary V.K.Sasikala, J.Ilavarasi and V.N.Sudhakaran in the 20 year old Disproportionate assets case. One of the two judges Pinaki Chandra Ghosh has delivered his verdict convicting the trio.

Then Chief Minister J.Jayalalitha, Sasikala and the other two were named as accused in this case. They were convicted to four years imprisonment and a fine by the Bangalore Special Court in September 2014. However in May 2015 the Karnataka High Court acquitted all the four accused in this case.

Jayalalitha passed away in December 2016. The remaining three accused of the case have been convicted by one of the two judges of the Apex court today. He has upheld Bangalore Special Court Justice D.Kunha's sentence of four years imprisonment and levied a fine of Rs.10 crores.

Sasikala, Sudhakaran and Ilavarasi have been ordered to present themselves in the Supreme Court immediately.

The verdict of another judge is still awaited. But even if he upholds her acquittal by High Court, Sasikala cannot take charge as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has she has been convicted by one of the two judges.
