Two diverse films release this weekend - 'Teri Meri Kahaani' and 'Gangs of Wasseypur' and none of the two are expected to see any massive opening at the box office.

Promotion of the Shahid Kapoor-Priyanka Chopra started on a reasonably decent note and the songs turned out to be good as well.

However the momentum that one expected from this film during last four weeks has been surprisingly missing which means it would be a challenge for it to register very good numbers on the opening day.

Moreover, since Shahid's 'Mausam' is still lingering in audience memory, even that may have a bearing.

However one does expect Kunal Kohli to deliver goods, especially after the debacle of 'Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic'. That would be known though after the word of mouth sets in once Friday comes to a close.

A lot would depend upon how the film sees an escalation over the weekdays since in the very next week arrives 'The Amazing Spiderman' which would invade multiplexes in a big way.

So from an expected 50%-60% opening, 'Teri Meri Kahaani' would have to take huge leaps.

Till date, Shahid's biggest money-spinner is 'Kaminey' which was years ago and couldn't come close to the 50 crores mark.

In current scenario when Imran Khan and Emraan Hashmi are registering much bigger numbers films after film, the least Shahid would be hoping for is a 50 crore runner that would bring him back in the reckoning to fight it out with the other youngsters.

On the other hand 'Gangs of Wasseypur' has managed to make some decent noise for itself though again it is looking at a niche audience for itself.

Though the makers are marketing the film as a commercial pot-boiler, yet again it would have to rely on the word of mouth.

A film with similar genre and setting with a much bigger director, 'Rakht Charitra' (Ram Gopal Varma) had released around a couple of years ago and met with a poor response at the box office.

Now though Anurag Kashyap's 'Gangs of Wasseypur' is expected to open on a relatively better note, its footfalls would be a little lower than 'Teri Meri Kahaani'.
