THE LAST LEAR sees Amitabh Bachchan play an actor for the first time ever! For that the look in the film is distinct and new not just for him for everyone.

Amitabh Bachchan's look is one that he has never before been seen in, Arjun Rampal gets an urban look that he hasn't got before either on the ramp or on screen, and Preity, for the first time, gets to play a modern Indian woman, replete with saris reminding one of Rekhas looks in Silsila.

Coming back to the uniqueness of his role, it is strange that the biggest living superstar of Indian cinema, who has played everything from a Coolie to a Don, from a Sharabi to a Jaadugar, has never really played an actor! Also, this would be the superstars' first-ever full length English language film.

Says Rituparno Ghosh, director of the film, "It was a delight working with Amitda. All this while I have been hearing that he is a thorough professional. But now I realize that it was only a partial description of what he is. Amitda brings in so much warmth, sincerity and genuineness in his professionalism that the experience is truly endearing and enjoyable."

And how about the rest of the starcast in the film, "Preity, Arjun and Shefali have also put in extremely sincere efforts into the film. The performances are indeed brilliant!"

Shot extensively outdoors around Kolkata and in the scenic mountains of Mussoorie, quite a palette this is!

The film is produced by Arindam Chaudhuri of Planman Motion Pictures.
