The release of Kamal Haasan's Vishwaroopam has been a topic of controversial discussion during last week. Reports about the actor-director-producer, suggesting that he will be releasing the film directly to DTH providers were around the corner. Now, it appears that Kamal will indeed be selling his DTH rights for a major league provider. Yesterday, he announced this to the Producers Association and confirmed that the film will be releasing on the same date in DTH as well.

The news has sparked arguments across the industry, with producers and distributors worrying that the future of cinema will be in trouble. If makers of films were to release films directly to television sets, what would happen to theatre owners and many other industries based on such businesses. Anyhow, a group of people are attempting to red-card Kamal Haasan and stop him from doing his act, even as the actor continues to say that the film will arrive on DTH eight hours before the release.

We will have to wait and release how this plans out. Meanwhile, the audio launch of Vishwaroopam has been made and CDs are available at stores now. Kamal and his team will be flying across Madurai, Coimbatore and Chennai today taking part in launch event across the state.
