Ameer's 'Yogi', which hit the screens today, has been making waves globally. The film has been selected for screening at the competition category of the Dubai Film Festival beginning 9 December and will also be screened at Berlin and Durban festivals.

Speaking to reporters in Chennai on Thursday, Ameer said, "Directed by Subramaniam Siva, the movie marks my debut as actor. Both the director and myself would be in Dubai on 9 December, when the film will be screened there."

"We were not targeting at film festivals. Initially we wanted to make it a commercial entertainer. But actress Suhasini Mani Ratnam and film festival consultant and curator and Dorothee Wenner were impressed seeing the pilot version of 'Yogi' and were adamant that it should be taken to various film festivals across the globe".

It is a movie with a message. It has everything to appease genuine movie-lovers, Ameer said and added, "We chose to do a movie around Chennai hutments, a hitherto unexplored area. The protagonist Yogeswaran alias Yogi leads his own life and the events that he comes across in his life make up the story."
