The middle stream commercial cinema is believed to be taking its last breath in Malayalam cinema. 2005 also saw not much sunlight for this genre-once a power identity of mollywood, propagated by Bharathan and Padmarajan. Ammathottil, the new film starring Bijumenon and Mohini is expecting a reversal of fortunes for middle stream cinema. This emotional flick is directed by the debutant director Rajesh Amanakara.

Biju menon, once perceived as the next super star, is back as a family hero in Ammathottil, afer playing second fiddle in many super star films. Set to powerful script by the director himself, Ammathottil is a story of a doctor couple-one a child specialist and other a gynecologist played by Bijumenon and Mohini. The various facets of life they pass through as professionals and the nuances it create in their married life is the theme of the film.

"The film is conceived to be as an eyeopener against a very commom social evil asssociated with medical professionals. The viewers are sure to identify with themselves, some of the situations depicted and issues addressed in the film. The characters portrayed by Biju menon and Mohini are presented in the two different ages. and, I believe these are healthy reasons for a film, especially malayalam to do well at the box office." remarks the young director on his debut venture.

Having started out his career with a marvelous job he did with major Ravi in Punarjani, this film is a sharp contrast with his earlier noted work. Being a family film and boasting of bigger stars, the film is definitely planned with an eye on the box office charts. The film after editing has completed lab works and grading under the supervision of the ace cameraman S.G.Raman who also created perfect visuals for the film. Music by debutant Rajesh Appukkuttan and edited by Hariharaputhran and promos by Mahesh Narayanan - the film will hit the theatres as a vishu release.
