After debuting with immensely promising roles in films like 'Bombay March 12' and 'Bangkok Summer', Unni Mukundan, one of the young actors who is looked upon as a tomorrow's biggie in Mollywood has landed on another meaty role. He will be playing the lead role in the new remake of 'Chattakari'. Unni will be in the role that actor Mohan has done in the original.

Nithya Menon will be in the title role of the movie that Lekshmy has done in the original. The movie is produced by remake specialist Sureshkumar, who has got appreciable success with the movies like 'Neelathamara' and 'Rethi Nirvedham'. Though the producer is often criticised for opting for remake movies that has much skinny and sensuous scenes, the remakes are undoubtedly offering chances for the younger generation to witness some of the best films of the eighties.'Chattakari' itself is one such example- as this was one of the earliest Malayalam movies to have remade in every other languages with appreciable success. 'Julie' was its Hindi remake which was also noted for its poignant moments and mature handling of the subject.

Earlier, it was reported that the producers were after Shwetha menon and Mydhili for doing the title role, which was later finalised on Nithya Menon. The movie will be directed by Santhosh Sethumadhavan , the son of veteran director K S Sethumadhavan who has directed by original 'Chattakkari'.
