'May the best film film' - This could pretty much be a call at the box office this weekend, what with as many as five films vying for audience attention. These are 'Azaan', 'Jo Dooba So Paar - It's Love in Bihar!', 'Mod', 'Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge' and 'My Friend Pinto'.

Let's first talk about those films that would find the going extremely difficult at the box office - 'Jo Dooba So Paar - It's Love in Bihar!' and 'Mod'. 'Jo Dooba So Paar - It's Love in Bihar!' is a film that has arrived out of nowhere and doesn't carry a single recognisable name in the lead role. Further trouble lies in the fact that despite being a comedy, the film's supposedly 'comic promos' hardly bring on a giggle. Even though there are Vinay Pathak and Rajat Kapoor in supporting roles, it hasn't managed to entice one enough to check out what the film is all about.

On the other hand 'Mod' has the combination of Nagesh Kukunoor and Ayesha Takia being seen again but the promotion has been so lacklustre that buzz around the film is totally missing. Worse, one doesn't even get any idea whatsoever of what the film is all about, something which is a sacrilege for any movie's plans.

This leads one to 'Azaan', 'Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge' and 'My Friend Pinto', three films that would still be at least battling it out the box office. 'Azaan' is an action affair and claims to be Bollywood's biggest ever espionage thriller. The film has been well promoted and it's strength lies in some well orchestrated action sequences. Though one is not looking at a blockbuster opening here, anything over 50% for the film should be good enough for this Sachiin Joshi starrer to keep it's head high since it has a fairly new set up at play here.

Ditto for both 'Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge' and 'My Friend Pinto' which would be basically eating into each other's space this weekend. Quintessential multiplex films that have the same target audience, both 'Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge' and 'My Friend Pinto' have seen some decent promotion coming their way with the makers (Yash Raj Films and UTV/Sanjay Leela Bhansali) doing all they could to make their product's presence felt.

Each of the five films can take consolation from one fact that they have as many as 12 open days ahead of them since no notable film releases next weekend and all the way till Diwali when Shahrukh Khan arrives with 'Ra. One'.
