Milan Lutharia's forthcoming biopic 'The Dirty Picture' has been making waves now and then for its content, cast and shooting experiences. Now read on the latest update from the movie's front.

Balaji Productions' keenly awaited multi-starrer, 'The Dirty Picture', is reported to release on December 2. And the date is no ordinary one, we say! The release is in fact being timed with the birthday of Silk Smitha, on whom the movie is based. Such a perfect tribute for the classic actress na? Earlier the movie was meant to release in November.

Music-packed, humorous and unabashed, the film traces the bold, controversial and yet emotional romances of Silk. Vidya Balan who plays the lead role is supported by Emraan Hashmi, Naseeruddin Shah and Tusshar Kapoor in pivotal roles.

Did you know? Born Vijayalakshimi (her actual name) in to a poor family in Eluru (Andhra Pradesh), she left school early, driven to become a movie star. Going in with her aunt in Madras (now Chennai), she soon found a sponsor who re-named her Smitha. After garnering much notice and acclaim with her first major role in the Tamil movie, 'Vandi Chakkaram' (The Wheel) in 1979, Smitha assumed the name "Silk," after the name of her character.

Silk was the biggest South-Indian screen sensation, known for her bold and daring erotica on celluloid. Filmmakers could not imagine releasing a film without a titillating song or cameo by Silk. She was every film maker's lucky charm. Her most popular one is 'Layanam' (Malayalam, 1989) directed by Thulasidas. In fact 'Layanam' became so famous that it was remade in Hindi as the controversial 'Reshma Ki Jawani'.
