‘10+4’ and ‘XXY’ shares top honors at IFFK

Iranian Film '10+4' and Spanish film 'XXY' shared the Swarna Chakoram (Golden Crow Pheasant)awards , the top award of the 12th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK), which concluded at the capital city yesterday. Mania Akbari, the Director of 10+4 also bagged the 'Rajata Chakoram' (Silver Crow Pheasant) award for the best Director.

The Rajata Chakoram (Silver Crow Pheasant) award for the debutant Director went to Luca Puenzo for her film XXY. The 'Sleepwalking Land' directed by Terra Sonambula bagged the Federation of International Film Critics (FIPRESCI) prize for the best on competition.

The NETPAC award for the best Asian film was given to 'Getting Home' directed by Lou Ye Gui Gen. ’Ore Kadal' (The Sea Within) by Shyamaprasad bagged the FIPRESCI prize and NETPAC awards in the Malayalam section. `Bliss' from Turkey by Abdulla Oguz got a special jury award for its exceptional direction

The psychological fallout of alternative sexuality is explored in a subtle and penetrating way in the film 'XXY’. '10+4' reflects the journey of the director who returned from the jaws of death after fighting cancer. The film was shot as a sequel to Abbas Kiarostami's 'Ten,' in which the director played the lead role.

The Suvarna Chakoram award carries a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh, a statuette and a citation, while the Rajatha Chakoram award for best director carries a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh, a statuette and a citation. The Rajatha Chakoram award for best debut director carries a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh, a statuette and a citation.
