Film directors Jayaraj and Renjith expressed their acute disappointment about the theatres of Kerala, ignoring good attempts in Malayalam. 'When they are in queue to release the experimental works and super star films even from Kollywood, they seldom opt to run a Malayalam movie that is made with good intentions and quality''. Jayaraj and Renjith were speaking to the press on Kozhikode, yesterday.

Jayaraj's new film ‘Gulmohur’, which features director Renjith as the protagonist could make into a very few theatres in the state, last week. Even in a big metro like Ernakulam, the makers were able to release the movie only in a centre as a noon show.

Renjith even criticized the Kerala State Film Development Corporation and the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy for denying a release of ‘Gulmohur’ even in the State-owned theatres like Kairali and Sree.

“When I was shooting for my latest movie ‘Thirakkatha’ I was surprised to hear that the KSFDC run Chitranjali studios were giving priority for a reality show of a television channel that was being shot there, than my feature film that asked for some time and space in the studios for a shoot session. Even the state run theatres that operated from seven cities prefer Tamil and dubbed Telugu films than the Malayalam movies”. Voiced Renjith
