Yes, the news is out. Bollywood beauty Shilpa Shetty has won the coveted ‘Big Brother’ in UK with an ‘overwhelming’ 67% of audience votes going in her favour.

Now, not only will she be winning the prize money of approximately Rs 80 lakhs (besides the Rs 3 crore plus that she was given just for participating) but the whole world is waiting for her outside with bags of money (her mother Sunanda Shetty is already haggling hard to get the best deals possible in UK). But the question is….Didn’t we know that she shall be the ‘Chosen one’?

Of course we did. So, is her victory in a way a face saving exercise of Channel 4 that had come in for severe flak after the ‘Racism’ controversy that raged almost the entire world! Yes, we think so. Channel 4 had come in for strict criticism from all quarters of the society.

Even Tony Blair had to make a statement in the House of Commons defending UK’s liberal multi cultural credentials. There was a point of time when it was being said that the show may have to be stalled in the middle itself.

But somehow it puffed through. And what better way to bring it to an end by appeasing everyone. And the ‘victim’ has been adjudged the Queen of hearts.

This doesn’t demean Shilpa Shetty in anyway. For one must say that she did carry herself with a lot of dignity inside the house. And held her own, in spite of the stiff diatribe of negative energies emitted by a few of the other contestants in the house.

The Big Brother experience has also made Shilpa Shetty richer both as a person as well as professionally. While the likes of Jade Goody are panting for mere survival and oozing apologies even while sleeping, even a UK tabloid interview will be earning a 100, 000/ pounds for Shilpa.

It’s being said in the media circles that she shall be offered a Hollywood movie while a prestigious media house in UK have plans of offering her a cricket based reality show. And of course there must be loads of business houses both in UK as well as India with big endorsement offers for her.

Indiaglitz congratulates Shilpa Shetty on making India proud (and herself much richer). But do you smell the good old British policy of appeasement behind this victory? Do let us know your thoughts!
