G. Siva, the director of the recently released 'Dhanam' has voiced concern as he is receiving phone calls threatening dire consequences. 'Dhanam' features actress Sangeetha as a Devadasi who indulges in sex-work. Societal repercussions follow and the film has sequences that narrate a move to poison her to death due to her 'wrong doings'.

The director has made it very clear that the lead character of the film is merely a victim of circumstances and the film is an expression of societal degeneration harping on human emotions and the thirst to be accepted.

Says G. Siva, 'If anyone has any qualms with regard to the film, I am ready to explain to them as to what the intent of the film is. It definitely is not aimed to disrespect anybody. I don't want to make this a big issue and so am not filing a complaint with the police'.

He also added by saying that, 'I believe in art and so I ventured to do a film like this which is an expression of human emotions. If I work just for money, I could have made yet another masala film'.
