As feared last week, 'Agent Vinod' was always in a wait and watch mode even when it came to covering its costs. An expensive film, it wasn't helped by mixed word of mouth. This means that even though 30 crores did come in it's opening weekend, all eyes were on weekdays to do the trick as far as doing even decent business was concerned. However to the disappointment of all involved, that wasn't the case to be as the film crashed in a big way during the weekdays.

With hardly 8 crores more coming in the days to follow, the film's first week struggled to reach the 40 crores mark. The writing was clear on the wall that despite zero competition, there weren't many interested in watching the drama unfold on screen. The film fizzled as the days passed by and the picture isn't any better in the second week either. As mentioned in this column last week, the first major milestone for the film was to near the 50 crores mark so that it could be a coverage affair at the least. However as things stand today, that won't really be the case and the film would fold up much below that number.

'Agent Vinod' has turned out to be yet another instance of a film that has been let down more by negative criticism and lack of enthusiasm amongst the 'junta' to check it out than the actual product itself. Ideally the film's opening itself should have been much bigger considering the fact that it had been released on a huge print count. When that didn't happen, negative criticism from media further hit its cause even though word of mouth from the fast diminishing audience that saw the movie wasn't really bad. Unfortunately though the damage was done which means the film would go down as a flop in box office archives.
