A 12-year-old boy identified as Nandan, had a narrow escape from a leopard attack at Beeregowdanahundi, near Kadakola, in Mysuru taluk, on Monday. Reportedly, the little kid was feeding his cow at his farmhouse while the leopard,l which was hiding behind the bushes, pounced on him. To save himself from the wild cat, he pierced the animal's eyes with his finger.  This unexpected attack forced the leopard to release its hold on him and escaped into the bushes. The young boy did sustain bite injuries on his neck and shoulders, as the animal attacked him. The boy is out of danger and is being treated at a private hospital in Mysuru.

According to villagers, there is a 140-acre vacant land that belongs to KPTCL, adjoining the boy's farmhouse. The vacant land has wild growth of bushes that has become a place for leopards to take shelter, the villagers said. In a media interaction, RFO Girish said, "Usually leopards do not attack humans. For the first time, a leopard attacking a boy has been reported in the district. The boy is out of danger and is responding to the treatment. However, there is no information on the boy piercing the leopard's eye."
