7 Tamil wood-cutters die by sinking in Cuddapah lake

Seven Tamil wood-cutters died yesterday when they sunk in a Cuddapah lake in Andhra Pradesh. Their bodies have been recovered.

Police have been interrogating what made the Tamils, who had been working apparently as red-sanders cutters, sink in the Ondimitta Lake near Cuddapah.  As per primary source of available information, all the seven dead workers belonged to Tamil Nadu and had been working as daily-wage labourers.

It is feared that they might have attempted to cut red-sanders and might have fallen into the lake with high tides when chased away by the Forest Department security guards of Andhra Pradesh.

In the meantime, the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh has denied that the death of seven Tamil workers was caused by its officials.
