While a vast majority of the Indians are celebrating PM Narendra Modi's bold decision to abolish Rs.500 and Rs.1000 currency notes over night, it is true that a few sections of the society will have to face adverse effects at least in the near future. One among them will be the film industry as it is expected that the move will badly affect the release of films scheduled to hit the screens tomorrow and the day after (November 10 & 11) as the circulation of money in these two days will be limited.

The banks are closed for today and ATMs will not function today and tomorrow. Rs.500 and Rs.1000 notes have lost their value and the only way to realize their worth is by depositing them in banks after November 11, Hence the currencies of lesser denominations like Rs.100, Rs.50 and Rs.10 have become highly precious.

It is quite logical to assume that theater kiosks will not be accepting the abolished currency notes and people may not be inclined to spend the valuable low denomination currency notes they have, for buying movie tickets at least for the next two days. They will be struggling to buy the essentials with what is available with them. Only those who book tickets through online can afford to spend on movies now, which is not even 50% of the total populace of theatergoers.

This casts a big question mark over the release of new films for this weekend. Other reason is that the last minute cash dealings between distributors and exhibitors may also get severely affected in these two days especially in rural areas

'Kadavul Irukaan Kumaru' directed by Rajesh with GV Prakash Kumar in the lead role, 'Achcham Yenbathu Madamaiyada' directed by Gautham Menon with Silambarasan in the lead role and 'Meen Kuzhambum Manpanaiyum' directed by Amudheshwar with Kalidas Jayaram in the lead role are the three Tamil films that are scheduled to hit the screens Tomorrow and Day After (November 10 and November 11). Now it looks like the release of these three films may get postponed.

But we will have to wait till this evening to get a clearer picture as the makers of these films can be expected to come up with the official announcement pertaining to the release of their films.
