Tharshan the Sri Lankan model was one of the major successes in 'Bigg Boss 3' hosted by Kamal Haasan that aired in 2019. He was expected to win the title but lost to Mugen Rao in the finishing line. Kamal made a two-film deal with Tharshan for his Raj Kamal Films International which even raised his stock further.

Though Tharshan enjoyed so much of positive hype, he could not capitalize on his popularity due to controversies in his personal life. Actress Sanam Shetty lodged a police complaint against Tharshan citing that they were lovers for two years and it was she who helped him in his modeling career.

Sanam Shetty also produced evidence of she and Tharshan getting engaged in the presence of family and friends and stated that after the success of 'Bigg Boss 3' he refused to marry her.

When no police action was taken against Tharshan for many months Sanam Shetty approached the court which ordered the Adyar All Woman's Police Station to take immediate action. The police have now registered a strong case under three sections against Tharshan including cheating and offenses against women.

The police have informed the court that Tharshan is not in India and is in his hometown in Sri Lanka and the necessary action will be taken to question him regarding the case. With 'Bigg Boss 4' beginning to air today the controversy regarding last year's favorite star has created a sensation in Kollywood.
