Varun Tej and Naga Chaitanya are currently banking on their most expensive projects yet, as both actors are in dire need of a solid hit after their recent films failed to make an impact at the box office. Their hopes are pinned on their respective upcoming films. However, a new hurdle has emerged from Amazon Prime Video, the popular OTT platform.

Amazon Prime Video recently unveiled an extensive slate of new films and web dramas in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. Among these announcements, two projects pose a potential challenge for Varun Tej and Naga Chaitanya. Varun Tej is starring in the film 'Matka', directed by Karuna Kumar, which delves into the world of the gambling game Matka that thrived in the 1980s and 90s. Meanwhile, Naga Chaitanya is immersed in 'Thandel', helmed by Chandoo Mondeti, which narrates the plight of fishermen who inadvertently trespass into Pakistani waters in the Arabian Sea and find themselves incarcerated in Pakistan.

The crux of the issue lies in the fact that Amazon Prime has unveiled two projects with loglines similar to those of Varun Tej and Naga Chaitanya's films. It has to be seen how these projects impact Matka and Thandel's performance at the box office.

Here are the loglines of Prime Video's projects:

Arabia Kadali

A suspenseful drama series that revolves around a group of fishermen from rival villages who inadvertently trespass into international waters and find themselves imprisoned in a foreign jail.

Cast: Satya Dev, Anadhi

Matka King

An enterprising cotton trader in Mumbai starts a new gambling game called Matka, taking the city by storm and democratizing a terrain previously reserved for the rich and elite.

Cast: Vijay Verma

If these two web contents are streamed before “Matka” and 'Thandel', both Varun Tej and Naga Chaitanya's films risk losing the novelty factor, potentially affecting their box office performance and audience reception.
