Amrita Rao honoured by Konkani Sammelan

Actress Amrita Rao and ace filmmaker Shyam Benegal recently were special invitees at the Konkani Sammelan, which was organised in US.

The three-day congregation was attended by several Konkani personalities from all over the globe and also, some of the noted names from the Konkani community were felicitated for their works in respective fields.

While Amrita was honoured for her contribution in cinema, Shyam Benegal had been the chief speaker on the occasion.

Talking to sources before the function, Amrita, whose mother tongue is Konkani, had said that it’s a community honour and she feels very humbled with the recognition.

She was specially appreciated by Benegal for her growth in acting career and he also remarked that she is very talented actor.

The filmmaker also stated that although Konkani community is one of the micro communities of India, it’s interesting to see its course.

"Events like these are not chauvinistic gatherings, but occasions to appreciate each other's works and achievements," quoted Benegal referring to the Sammelan.
