The title logo of Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan was recently launched and the crew of the movie was released along with it. When lyricist Vairamuthu's name was not mentioned in the list, people assumed that he was not part of the movie. Clarification regarding the issue has not been issued by the makers until now.

The #MeToo movement that began over a year ago exposed the sexual predators in the cine industry and lyricist Vairamuthu was one of them. He was accused of sexual harassment by several women, including playback singer Chinmayi. Amid speculations regarding Vairamuthu's removal from Ponniyin Selvan, music director AR Rahman was questioned by a news agency regarding the matter. He reportedly said, "You will see who will be writing it (lyrics). We can't discuss it now. Whatever it may be, Mani Ratnam's office will announce it."

Produced by Lyca Productions, Ponniyin Selvan's massive star cast includes Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayaram, Trisha, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Arjun Chidambaram, Lal, and Aishwarya Lekshmi, among others.
