Art Director Samir Chanda no more

Another shock hit the filmdom when the news of Samir Chanda's demise spread out. The popular art director reported to have passed away yesterday after a suffering a massive heart attack. Some sources reveal that the attack was the result of undertaking wrong medication.

Some sources close to the deceased reveal that of late Samir appeared quite depressed due to some personal problems. It was a shock for many directors in Bollywood as well as in south when they heard about Chanda's loss.

Samir Chanda had teamed with eminent filmmakers like Shyam Benegal, Vishal Bhardwaj, Mani Ratnam, Kalpana Lajmi, Mrinal Sen, Rakesh Omprakash Mehra, Govind Nihalini, and Pankaj Kapur. His filmography also include a remarkable list of works namely 'Rang De Basanti', 'Saath Khoon Maaf', 'Omkara', 'Guru', 'Raavan' and 'Dil Se' among others.

Having been active in this field for more than two decades, Samir has also won the National Film Award for Best Art Direction in 2005 for film 'Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero'.

He was also the art director for Shirish Kunder's forthcoming directorial 'Joker' which stars Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha and Shreyas Talpade in the lead.

Many stars and technicians offered their last respect to the deceased technician.

Noting the deaths of celebrities of late, director Anant Mahadevan commented on his micro-blogging site - "Actor Shammi Kapoor, Art director Samir Chanda, composer Johnson, all left within a week...dark phase for the show world."

Priyanka Chopra tweeted - "RIP Samir Chanda. Had the good fortune of knowing the incredible man he was in Kaminey and Saat khoon maaf. Thank u for always believing in me. This is a complete shock...there is a song... "only the good die young" by Billy Joel .. U will always be remembered."

While Shirish Kunder wrote - "RIP Samir Chanda. Was working with him on JOKER. We just met last evening to discuss designs for next schedule. Am shocked!"
