Aval Peyar Thamizharasi

Thursday, January 1, 1970 • Tamil Comments

Moser Bear's `Aval Peyar Thamizharasi' (Her Name Is Thamizharasi) is yet another film set in country folk settings. Directed by Meera Kathiravan, `APT' has garnered international attention even before its official theatrical release on festival circuits. It was premiered at the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) in December 2009 and received good reviews. Moser Baer's earlier films like `Poo', `Raman Thediya Seethai' and Kanden Kadhalai were well received by quality audience.

Raising curiosity by the name itself, the film `Aval Peyar Thamizharasi' is about love, treachery, revenge and liberation in the lives of Jothi Murugan and Thamizharasi.

Jothi who lives with his grandfather at the village, starts liking Thamizharasi, who come to his village with her family of mother, brother and grandfather. Jothi likes Tamizharasi and pleads with his grandfather to help Thamizharasi family when other villagers are not in support of them. His grandfather helps the family stay in the village and that gives more time for Jothi to spend with Thamizharasi family..

They grow together and Jothi does everything to make Thamizharasi happy. To take her family out of poverty Thamizharasi develops interest in education and studies well. While Thamizharasi becomes the district topper in public exam, Jothi fails the exams. This makes him develop an inferiority complex.

Thamizharasi family always think of Jothi as the benefactor and trusts him fully even to an extent of letting Thamizharasi stay with Jothi in the same room when they go out to city.

But Jothi's friends confuse his mind saying Thamizharasi will not stay with him once she completes higher education. One day Jothi finds Thamizharasi has gone to the city also gone for counseling for higher studies, without informing him.

When Thamizharasi returns, dramatic changes occur in their lives and that forms the rest of the story.

The choice of actors lends substantial credibility to the off beat script. Jai as Jothi, new face Nandagi as Thamizharasi, Theodore Baskaran as Jothi's Grandfather and Veera Santhanam as Thamizharasi's Grandfather have performed wonderfully say the sources that were following the film.

Produced by Moser Baer Entertainment Ltd. and Blue Ocean Entertainment, `Aval Peyar Thamizharasi, is written & Directed by Meera Kathiravan. Cinematography is P.G. Muthaiah. Editing by Raja Mohamed. Art Direction by a new comer S.S. Murthy. The film is produced by G. Dhananjayan and V.M. Lalitha.

Another highlight of the film is going to be of course the music by Vijay Antony.  All the songs gave a folk undertone and Vijay Antony tries to break into a new genre and explore every facet of traditional country music. The album surely has some engaging numbers.

All set to release on March 5, `Aval Peyar Thamizharasi' is sure to break new grounds in sensitive popular cinema.
