Black Cat

Thursday, January 1, 1970 • മലയാളം Comments

Super hit director Vinayan, is for the first time making an outing with Suresh Gopi in the lead in his new film titled Black Cat. Contrary to the suggested title, Suresh Gopi is not presented as a cop or a Black Cat in charge of VIP security! It is the story of a mentally retarded person, who works as a hit man for Tharakan Muthalali, a pompous rich man in the Sea side Town.

Suresh Gopi is in this character called Black as has an obsession for black clothes and wears only black sleeveless vests and shots and is sort of a hired goonda in the film. He will be seen in a different getup, through out with straight, long hair and dull makeup. He is also a gluttonous character in the film who gives you a feel of a little immature for his age.

Although he's the son of Pathrose, he was brought up by Tharakan Muthalali and feels that he is eternally indebted to him.   Hence, Black is a faithful servant of Pathrose and would do anything to satisfy the whims of his master. Once he rescues Tharakan from the hands of Sunny, an abkari contractor. He also keeps a secret love with Tharakan Muthalali's daughter Blessy. Julius  Caesar (Harishree Ashokan) and George Washington (Indrans) are Black's aides, who follows black in his every endeavors.

Dr Meenakshi who comes from Mumbai to meet Ayurveda physician Yousuf was received by Tharakan and his comrades. When she sees Black, some past incidents come to her mind and finds him as he holds some mystery beneath his weird mannerisms and a confused past. Is Black the person she knew years ago? She tries to find out. She starts questioning people to find the truth about Black, his past and how he landed up on the Malabar Coast. This puts Meenakshi on bad terms with Tharakan Muthalali's daughter Blessy, and she tries to stop Meenakshi. Black continues with his life, ignorant of all these developments. It is then that a shocking truth about black is revealed. The rest of the story unfolds as the consequences of this revelation.

Meena, Karthika, Rajan P Dev and Nedumudi Venu play   the roles of Dr. Meenakshi, Blessy Tharakan Muthalali and Pathrose respectively. Apart from Suresh Gopi, the film has Thilakan, Jagadhish, , Harishree Ashokan, Indrans, Baburaj, Machan Varghese and many others. Vinayan, the director of the film also provides the story and the script while Jayasoma does the dialogues.

Vinayan's muse Manikuttan is doing a guest appearance in a song sequence for the film. The film has camera by Venugopal and G Murali make the sharp cuts. Vinayan is trying to built up some mind blowing action sequences choreographed by Kanalkannan, who  had  also worked with Vinayan in Sathyam.

Songs are penned by Vayalar Sharat Chandra Varma and Rajeev Alungal and music composed by Alphonse and M Jayachandran."It is going to be a racy entertainer with all commercial ingredients". Says Vinayan who also considers this as a very risky project. The story is made in seashore milieu and Suresh Gopi uses their slang in the film. Produced under the banner of Essar fs production, the film will be distributed by Good Way Corporation.

The film is shot at Mangalore, Mumbai and Kannur in two schedules. It is planned as a March 2007 release.
