In a recent interview, veteran actress Sowcar Janaki rubbished the #MeToo movement, claiming that women gained nothing out of making their harassment allegations public, adding that the movement is “crap.” “Proclaiming cases of sexual harassment that happened, that did not happen, that should have happened, not only defiles your personality as an individual, but it affects the members of your family as well. What do you gain out of bringing up something that happened 20 years ago, while you remained silent as it suited your convenience back then? I’ve stopped watching/reading news that pertain to the MeToo movement,” she said. Adding further, she called the movement “rubbish” and “crap.”

Singer and dubbing artist Chinmayi, who had come forward with sexual harassment allegations against veteran lyricist Vairamuthu a couple of months ago, has been making headlines for months in regards to the movement, as she has been relentlessly defending the victims. The singer, who watched the video of Sowcar Janaki’s interview and her claims against the movement, was moved to tears. “How MANY from the industry have shielded and protected predators? And the MeToo jokes - Slow clap,” she posted on her official Twitter page.
