One of the prestigious awards given in the field of Films, is the Oscar awards. Awards are given every year in various categories to films, artists and technicians besides foreign language movies and lifetime achievement categories for the winners chosen.

As of now, the  rules of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences states that only the films which were screened in a Los Angeles theatre atleast for a week are only eligible for nominations to Oscar. Now, the rules have been changed considering the current critical situation.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has changed its rules such that films which premiere on streaming or video on demand services will be eligible for next year's awards, as theatres are closed due to the coronavirus and movir releases are getting delayed. Currently, many movies are planning a digital release, and the Academy has added that the exemption will end when theatres reopen.
