The Indian meteorological department has announced that a cyclonic circulation is likely to develop in the extreme southeast of Bay of Bengal, in the equatorial region of the Indian Ocean on April 23. By the 25th, the system would apparently grow stronger and turn into a low-pressure area and intensify into a cyclonic storm by the end of the month.

As a result of this, the coastal areas might experience heavy rainfall on the 29th, according to the Chennai Meteorological Survey Director. "A low-pressure area is very likely to develop over the equatorial Indian Ocean and the adjoining southwest of Bay of Bengal to the southeast of Sri Lanka on April 25. It is very likely to intensify into a depression on April 27. It is very likely to move northwards towards the Tamil Nadu coast across the east coast of Sri Lanka and is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm by April 29," according to a regional Meteorological center. Moderate rainfall was recorded in a few areas in TN yesterday due to convection. The maximum rainfall was recorded at 10 cm in Periyakulam, 6 cm in Thambatty and Sankari, and 5 cm each in Thiruvannamalai and Hosur.

In the next 24 hours, Erode, Salem, Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tirupur, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Virudhunagar, Kanyakumari, Tiruvarur and Thanjavur districts are likely to experience moderate rainfall.
