On a day when the Election Commission delivered a huge blow to his political aspirations within a fortnight after incessant raids by the income-tax authorities had taken half-the-life out of him, Dinakaran played down the impact of the EC’s verdict allotting AIADMK’s flag, name and symbol (‘Two Leaves’) to the ruling AIADMK led by EPS-OPS, the chief-minister and the deputy chief-minister combine.

Stating that the verdict wasn’t something he expected, Dinakaran said that the verdict has made AIADMK akin to a garland which had accidentally fallen into a monkey’s hands.  “We shall soon be filing an appeal with the Supreme Court challenging the Election Commission’s verdict,’ he added while addressing newsmen in Salem.

It is apparent that the EC has acted in a biased manner and the verdict is only a reflection of this attitude.  EC didn’t discharge duties in an unbiased manner.  It froze the party symbol, name and flag when the EPS faction had 122 MLAs and 37 MPs on their side; however, now the unified AIADMK only has 111 MLAs but the EC has gone ahead and allotted the party’s name, symbol and flag to it.

"We shall soon be filing an appeal with the SC against this verdict," he said and likened the party to a garland in a monkey's hands.  On another note, he exuded confidence and said that he would win the by-poll in R.K. Nagar in Chennai whenever polls are held.
