Director Cheran is one of the most respected storytellers in Tamil cinema who has given many memorable films including 'Bharathi Kannamma', 'Porkalam', 'Autograph'and 'Thavamai Thavamirundhu'. He has shared that he got an opportunity to work with Thalapathy Vijay after 'Autograph' but had to miss out because of his commitments.

Cheran has shared a video in which Thalapathy Vijay praises Cheran's 'Autograph' and has written in Tamil "I cannot forget when Vijay called me after watching 'Autograph' in Prarthana Drive-in theater. He also gave me an opportunity to direct his next film after that but I declined because 'Thavamai Thavamirundhu' was not completed by then.".

Cheran has lamented the missed opportunity by writing "I should not have made that mistake because I only thought about the 'Thavamai Thavamirundhu' producer and missed the biggest opportunity of directing a Vijay movie. I want to meet him in person and apologize for that".

Cheran further added "The three hours I spent narrating 'Autograph' script to Vijay is unforgettable because he listened intently without any diversions and the only time he opened his mouth was to ask me if I wanted water to drink. His dedication is what has taken him to his current heights".
