Director Pa.Ranjith has teamed up with Superstar Rajinikanth for the second time in quick succession After delivering the blockbuster 'Kabali' last year, the young director has teamed up with the Superstar again for 'Kaala'.

The film's shoot started on May 28th in Mumbai and the young and energetic filmmaker is now back in Chennai after completing a lengthy first schedule. The second schedule is expected to begin in Chennai after a brief gap.

In the mean time Ranjith is busy with his activism to eradicate the social evils against the people belonging to the oppressed castes. Today he his Neelam Productions in association with Jai Bhim Mandram has organised a screening of a stage play named as 'Manjal' as part of their campaign against the inhuman practice of manual scavenging which has been banned by law but still widely prevalent in the Tamil society. Apart from social activists and politicians, acclaimed Tamil filmmakers Vetrimaran, Ram and actor Sathyaraj are participating in this event.

Ahead of this event Ranjith gave a interview to a Tamil news channel in which he spoke extensively about his campaign and also opened up for the first time about 'Kaala',:

"I am confident that Kaala will also sow a seed for social change. At the same time it will be a film that will be liked by people and fans. We had an intense shooting schedule in Mumbai and it was interesting too. So far no one has gone inside Dharavi (to make a film). Many artists have gone inside but they could not act. Such enormous will be the crowd over their. We have shot inside and around Dharavi for four days. One day we shot in Dharavi and for two days we shot in a place adjacent to Dharavi. We have also shot extensively in many important places in Mumbai. We have tried to portray the life of those people in a very realistic manner. But the film is not only about and for Mumbai Tamils. It is about the entire Indian society. "

Ranjith said, he believes Art is the best and most effective tool to bring about Social change and he will try to do that in all of his films.
