The Oscar-winning musician AR Rahman is currently busy with almost a dozen projects in the South Indian film industry. ARR's songs from the Simbu starrer 'Pathu Thala' and director Mani Ratnam's magnum opus 'Ponniyin Selvan 2' are slated to be released in March and April respectively.

Now, the hot news is that Isai Puyal has decided to help struggling film workers, particularly lightmen, of the Tamil film industry by conducting a grand concert in Chennai next month. RK Selvamani, president of the FEFSI (Film Employees Federation of South India), announced the same to the media on Sunday. He praised AR Rahman for taking a part in the initiative. FEFSI's press statement said:

"AR Rahman is beginning a noble initiative as a ray of hope. He's going to create a corpus fund to help lightmen, an important part of the film industry if they get injured in accidents. He will be conducting a grand music concert towards this cause on March 19 at Nehru Stadium in Chennai. He has told us to use the amount that is generated with this concert to help the families of lightmen who die in accidents on film sets. FEFSI offers our heartfelt thanks to him. We request all the artists and technicians in our industry to take AR Rahman as an example and come forward to help all the workers in our industry. Even if those in our industry donate just 1 percent of their salary, every single worker can be taken care of. Similarly, the Tamil Nadu government, too, should charge Rs 1 from every ticket sold and create a corpus fund from which they could issue pensions to film workers who are above 60 years of age."
