The week has come to a lazy end. With a few releases happening, one must say that audiences are getting thirstier for a Tamil flick. You have the option of visiting one of the theatres near you, or if not here are our weekly recommendation for the serious movie buff in you!

12 Angry Men: Hollywood classic

Look it up on the web. It’s not just a bunch of guys sitting around talking (okay, that's what happens), but it is about the play of emotions involved as well. As one man tries to challenge the status quo of the group, this film can be considered as a microcosmic study of the larger world. A falsely accused teen, and a group of mixed men from various societal strata try to bring a verdict on him. The movement of the plot is extremely grippy and functional for this seemingly low-end black & white production.

Fight Club : Predominantly satire & black Comedy

First rule of fight club is, you do not talk about it. But we’re breaking it here for the greater good. Fight Club was way ahead of its time. Hard-hitting on consumerism and rules laid by society, the movie attacks and makes you question your meaning of existence with relation to establishment. This movie which was considered brutally masculine also delves into deeper examination of gender principles and political/corporate authority. If all this is boring, Fight Club is surprisingly a super entertaining drama as well.

Miracle in Cell No.7 : Korean Drama

Korean movies are raw and realistic. This splendid drama is melancholic, positive and gives hope in some way. It slices deep into the human psyche to let you know that we’re all beautifully made inside. The story revolves around a mentally ill cum wrongly convicted hero who shares unconditional love with his daughter. Prison mates try and fail to make him escape. Years later the daughter fights the court to prove her dad was innocent. This movie will make even a grissly bear ask for tissues, especially towards the end.

Mary and Max: Animated drama

Life sometimes creates the unlikeliest of friendships. Like the friendship between two lonely persons at each end of the world. Mary is a freckled 8 year old girl in Australia and Max is an obese lonely 'over the forties' guy in New York. As the story progresses forward, you cannot but be moved by how the duo’s relationship evolves into purity and problems. This stop motion animation has a slew of awards that makes it worthy of this list and your time.

Ugly: Regional Bollywood

Director Anurag Kashyap is a master storyteller and it's a no-brainer. This crime drama is about a girl lost and the process, journey of the adults to find her. As each character portrays varying human errors, egos, and primal motivations for selfish gains,Anurag helps us examine the pathetic ‘Ugly’ side of things. It will disturb you on a deeper level while retaining thriller element on a superficial note. Watch it, might get you hooked onto the director’s other films as well.
