Stale as stone age aloo puri.. The much dependable Mohit Suri (Ek Villain, Aashiqui 2, Murder 2) makes us worry. Mohit’s ‘Hamari Adhuri Kahani’ - a borrowed line from the song ‘Bheegi Bheegi’ from Emraan Hashmi starrer ‘Gangster’ (2006) is a banally cooked love curry that reduces the exceptional talents of Vidya Balan, Emraan Hashmi and Rajkummar Rao to a vada pav.. how how..

The dependable Mohit Suri has proven accomplishments in capturing, manipulating the audience with emotions in his previous works like 'Aashiqui 2', 'Ek Villian', though they are direct lifts from cinemas from apna desh and pardesh but they had a certain authenticity, palpable affection and obvious inspirations from the Mahesh Bhatt’s school of cinema.. Here Suri tries a triangle bhel puri which is neither bhel nor puri and as adhuri as Amrish without Puri.. this time Mogambo (audience) kush nahi hua..

This particular cine ‘maa’ (said to be story of Mahesh Bhatt’s mother) written by Mahesh Bhatt and Shagufta is an empty ho hum how love story of a top shot hotelier Aarav Ruparel (Emraan Hashmi) who does not has a permanent address comes into contact with a flouriest Vasudha (Vidya Balan) a married women with a 5 year old child. Vasudha has a dark past, her dominating husband Hari (Rajkummar Rao) is absconding since five years and the police believe Hari to be a Maoist.

Aarav impressed by Vasudha’s passion for her job gives her an offer in Dubai which she initially refuses and then accepts.. Phool Khile Hai Dubai Dubai happens but the audience still can't get the connect.. anyways when both the flouriest and the Hotelier decide to ‘Lily’ with each other Vasudha’s past returns.. on paper this may appear as a pressure cooker situation but sadly it isn’t.

Mohit has mastered the idea of love that does not end on a happy note previously in 'Aashiqui 2' but here he fails in his home turf.

Packed and filled with cheesy situations and unnecessary spoon feeding.. the biggest villain of 'Hamari Adhuri Kahani' is the writing which is so obvious resulting in a bheja boil. Vidya Balan - oh no.. she just got a doctorate from Gujarat, do you believe the B-town vixen beauty would ever participate in a project that makes her play the sati savitri sob queen seen in yesteryears cinema.. what has happened to this B-town bombat naari.. how ‘silky’ is that slip Vidya..

May be an actor is suppose to only act and Vidya is excellent but still we question the choice.. Emraan Hashmi does his part well but his character is weakened by poor writing..

Rajkummar Rao does a fine job and rightly portrays the rigidness and complexness in his character.

An occasional moment of brilliance where Vidya breaks the sati savitri norm, Rajkumar Rao, the soulful music and an acceptable climax at the most saves it from bad to worse but anyhow this humdrum ho hum of a love story fails to add any glory to the makers or its actors career story.
