A 17-year-old boy has tragically lost his life days after a brutal assault by a large group of bullies near a Las Vegas high school.
The incident occurred on November 1 near Rancho High School, where Jonathan Lewis was viciously attacked by approximately fifteen youths. Reports suggest he intervened after his smaller friend was robbed by the group, as stated on a GoFundMe page initiated by his family. Police discovered him at around 2:05 pm that day, bleeding from head injuries.
Transported to University Medical Center, the teenager was placed on life support, and despite multiple efforts by doctors, he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.
Jonathan Lewis Sr., the boy's father, expressed his hope for the attackers to find forgiveness and come to terms with their actions. Speaking to News outlets, Lewis mentioned his son's usual reserved nature and revealed the teen had plans to relocate to Austin, Texas, to be with his father.
The heart-wrenching incident was captured in a video circulating on social media, depicting a group of youths assaulting the 17-year-old. Lewis asserted that his son courageously stood up for a smaller friend who had been victimized by the group. The grieving father described Jonathan as courageous and expressed his wish for organ donation to save others.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police have initiated a homicide investigation, with no arrests made yet. However, Lewis shared that investigators plan to charge several students involved with murder. A GoFundMe page titled 'Heart of a Champion Our Son' has been set up by Lewis to memorialize his son's legacy as a loving, giving, and kind individual who cared for his community.
