IIT Madras student commits suicide

A first-year MA student from IIT Madras was found hanging in her hostel room earlier today. The girl, identified as Fathima Lateef, hailed from Kollam, Kerala.

Investigation on the matter has just begun and the police are yet to ascertain the cause of her suicide. A first-year student, Gopal Babu from Uttar Pradesh, who was pursuing his M.Tech programme from the institute was found dead in his room in the Brahmaputra hostel in January 2018.

A 25-year-old woman research scholar from Jharkhand was found hanging in her hostel room at IIT-M on the eve of New Year 2019. A final year student of oceanography from Kerala was also found hanging inside his hostel room at the institute in September last year.
