Story:

Inspector Rishi (Naveen Chandra) is thrust into a world of ancient beliefs and modern skepticism as he investigates a series of enigmatic murders in the dense Thenkadu forest of Tamil Nadu. The local populace attributes these killings to the wrath of Vanaratchi, the forest Goddess, a belief rooted in centuries-old folklore.

Despite the prevailing superstitions, Rishi remains undeterred, convinced that a more tangible truth lies beneath the surface. As he delves deeper into the case, assisted by the dedicated Sub-Inspectors Ayyanar (Kanna Ravi) and Chithra (Malini Jeevaratnam), Rishi uncovers a labyrinth of deceit and intrigue that challenges his every conviction.

Meanwhile, forest officers Irfan (Elango Kumaravel), Sathya (Srikrishna Dayal), and Kathy (Sunainaa) find themselves embroiled in the unfolding mystery, their beliefs and loyalties put to the test. As Rishi and his team navigate the treacherous terrain of Thenkadu forest, they must confront not only the physical dangers lurking in the shadows but also the darker truths that lie buried within their own hearts.

The twists and turns in the story unfold at a breakneck pace, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats until the final revelation. As the lines between myth and reality blur, Inspector Rishi emerges as a compelling tale of belief, betrayal, and the unyielding human spirit in the face of the unknown.

Analysis:

Naveen Chandra slipped into the role of Inspector Rishi effortlessly. He showed the seriousness during the investigation and came up with the right kind of body language. He showed good emotions during the flashback scenes. Kanna Ravi, Sunaina Yella, Malini came with good performances. Srikrishna Dayal, Kumaran and others performed according to their roles.

Director JS.Nandhini who penned the story for the webseries blended the mystery and thrilling elements adding supernatural touch to it. She tried her best to thrill the viewers with the blend of folklore and superstition. Many films came earlier with similar plots where people belive that supernatural force was there behind the murders and cops unearthing a humanhand. Nandhini worked hard to join the missing links in each episode in a seamless manner.

The series starts with the mass suicides and similar murders before the investigation starts. The investigation deviates in the middle with the personal stories of couple of officers in Rishi's team but Nandhini ensured that it will not drag too much. Rishi's past also is dealt and shown in an interesting manner. The scenes showing logic and myth is handled in a interesting way along with the climax but the horror elements fail to make any impact.

Most of the scenes are predictable and viewers can guess the next scenes and twists quite easily if they follow it closely. But the gripping narration and racy screenplay turned the series into an interesting one.The series ends with a lead to the second season.

The background music of Ashwath elevated the scenes making a thumping impact. Bhargav Sridhar's cinematography is quite good and realistic and showed the forest scenes in a effective manner using the color grading perfectly. Sathish Surya's editing is ok but could have been better.

Verdict:

Inspector Rishi may follow a familiar path for crime thrillers, but it's the electrifying performance by Naveen Chandra and the gripping screenplay that elevate it into a must-watch series.

While the storyline may seem predictable at times, the pacey narrative and Naveen Chandra's portrayal of Inspector Rishi inject a new level of excitement and intensity into the familiar tropes of the genre. His nuanced performance keeps viewers hooked, drawing them into the character's world and making them invested in his journey.

The series' strength lies in its ability to keep audiences on the edge of their seats, thanks to its racy screenplay that delivers plenty of twists and turns. Each episode unfolds with a sense of urgency, driving the narrative forward and ensuring that viewers are constantly engaged.

Overall, while Inspector Rishi may not break new ground in terms of its storyline, it's a thrilling ride that showcases Naveen Chandra at the top of his game. If you're a fan of crime thrillers, this series is definitely worth a watch.
