Actor Jackie Shroff has asked the Delhi High Court for legal defense against the unapproved usage of the name "Bhidu." ANI adds that Shroff is pursuing protection for his personality and publicity rights as well as to stop anyone from using this word without his permission.

The court action also asks for protection of Shroff's voice, identity, and images—all of which other performers frequently imitate. In Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Devdas," for example, Krushna Abhishek is well-known for playing Shroff's role Chunni Babu. The actors of Netflix's "Heeramandi," which stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, and Aditi Rao Hydari, watched as Abhishek played Shroff's part in a recent episode of "The Great Indian Kapil Show."

Should Shroff's request be granted, actors might have to get approval to carry out these kinds of impersonations going forward.

Online, there has been a variety of responses to this legal action. Kal koi BC MC CF par bhi patency ka daava bol dega, said one user on X (formerly Twitter). Referring to another well-known line uttered by Shroff, another user questioned, "What about'mera baccha hai tu?'"

Shroff was backed by some users, who brought up worries regarding Deepfake technology. "Given the fact that now anyone can use Deepfake to mimic face and sound, his act is totally prudent," one remarked, laughingly adding, "Krishna's career over."

Positive comments were not universal. One detractor said, "Wrong move. It will be regretted by him. Anyhow, his copyrighted images cannot be used by anybody. Not his copyright are the ones that paparazzi or photojournalists capture. He won't give his authentic voice, hence it can't be used, but he can't stop others from imitating him.
