After a while with some non demanding roles, Mammootty is finally back with a definite winner in the new movie titled as 'Jawan of Vellimala'. A movie which will launch a fresh name of Anoop Kannan as director is also the debut venture of Mammootty's Playhouse as a production Banner.
 
The movie has a story by James Albert, which revolves around a high-range village called Vellimala. The village has a dam which the people living there consider as their pride. Mammootty, is Gopi Krishnan in the movie, who took voluntary retirement from military service after taking part in the Kargil war. He is currently working here as a pump operator. Mammooty also appear in another role in the movie which is kept as a big secret.
 
The other important characters of the movie includes, Varghese a K S EB executive engineer working at the Dam site and Koshi Oommen, the son of a contractor, who reaches there for some personal need. These three played by Mammootty, Sreenivasan and Asif Ali are the main three male characters in the film. Mamta Mohandas plays Anitha, a project officer at the Dam site who works for fresh water supply to the villagers and the development of the society.
 
The cast list of the movie also includes Niyona, Sunil Sugath, Baburaj, Sadik,Amit, Sasi Kalinga, Amalraj and Kottayam Nazeer. The movie cinematographed by Satheesh Kurup is edited by Manoj. The songs and BG scores are by Biji pal while Sameera Sanish is in charge of costumes and Prashanth Madhav heads the arts department.
 
The movie, which is continuing with its shoot at locales near Thodupuzha, Chimmini dam and Moolamattam, is nearing completion. The movie produced and distributed by Playhouse is expected to reach theatres by the last weeks of September.
