Jayadev Movie Review

'Jayadev', starring debutante Ganta Ravi, hits the screens today.  Here is our review of the cop action drama.

Story:

Jayadev (Ganta Ravi) is a sincere cop who just can't tolerate injustice.  When Inspector Srihari (Dr. Ravi Prakash) gets murdered in his jurisdiction, he takes it upon himself to go to any extent to bring closure to the gory case.

Involved in the murder is a big fish.  Played by yesteryear hero Vinod Kumar, the villain is ruthless to the core.  He kills off anyone who comes in his way.  A mining baron, he has a large network, including pathetic black sheep in the police department.

It's up to Jayadev to bravely defy all these mortal obstacles and bring justice to late Srihari.

Analysis:

Jayanth C Paranje, who kind of created a trend by making films like 'Preminchukunda Raa' and 'Premante Ide Raa' in late 1990s, surprisingly chooses a primitive story line.

We have definitely seen cop's stories by zillions.  Here, even the scale is pretty limited.  The entire film takes place in a few locations: a police station here, a government bungalow there, a hospital here, a quarry there, etc.  The cameraman keeps coming back to the same jaded spots as if they are Sanjay Leela Bhansali's dexterous sets.

One gory murder after another starts making a regular appearance.  The villain Vinod Kumar actually looks like a new, bulky version of Kollywood star Sharath Kumar.  Not that we are complaining, but at least the villain needn't have seemed like a 'remake' when the film already is a remake!

Our heroine:  She is one Malavika Raj, a debutante like the hero.  She is introduced time and again.  Each time, the camera focuses on one aspect of her body.  First introduction focuses on one thing.  Second introduction on another.  So on and so forth.  We are not sure if we are complaining about this.

The equations between the hero and heroine: It's as brilliant as the story line.  The 'bava' is usually not interested in the mischievous 'maradalu'.  Then suddenly, like Demonetization came unannounced, they sing 'Na Swasa Nee Lo' or things like that!  It's also not known as to why every time the hero is a sincere cop, he is unromantic to the point of making the heroine wear shortest clothes to impress him.

For a debutante, Ganta Ravi has done what he could best do.  He surely has many acting lessons to learn as he gains experience.  Vinod Kumar makes a confident comeback.  Malavika shouldn't do with just glam shows. Vennela Kishore as a troubled 'bava' of the hero is funny, so also his wife (played by Hari Teja).  Posani Krishna Murali and others put an OK show.

Mani Sharma's BGM is good.  The action sequences could have been better.

Verdict:

'Jayadev' is a cop drama that banks upon emotions, not the story line.  Director Jayanth C Paranje could have adapted the script in a more gripping way.
