Looking at the trailer of 'Kaatru Veliyidai' featuring Karthi in the navy blue uniform as a fighter pilot one would easily get reminded of his elder brother Suriya's near perfect portrayal of a young army officer in his 2008 super hit 'Varanam Aayiram'.

When the IndiaGlitz interviewer quizzed the tall and handsome actor about that, this is his honest admission.

"Suriya's 'Varanam Aayiram' character is my inspiration for for the character I played in this film After reading the script I understood that I should be like that to do this film. If you say I am close to my brother I am very happy about that."

However the 'Kaashmora' actor brushed aside the pre-release speculations that 'Kaatru Veliyidai' will be akin to Mani Ratnam's 1992 blockbuster 'Roja' which was also set in Kashmir.

He said "This is neither 'Roja' nor 'Alaipayuthey'. Mani sir will never repeat his stories. It's a very different love story, its a very intense love story, a serious take on the relationship. When it happens to be a soldier's love story automatically, there is a sense of seriousness towards it. Both the lead characters are not easy going and they are strong. This love story is all about what happens between these two characters.

I don't think this film is anywhere close to 'Roja' or 'Alaipayuthey'. It is not as light as 'Alaipayuthey' and it doesn't have any National Integration angle like 'Roja'.
