Recently, director Bharathiraja was elected the president of the directors union without any election, but however later, he had stepped down from the role after saying that it was democratically not right to be chosen without election, and said that elections must be conducted for the selection of president.

Following this, a discussion for the decision on the date for directors union election for selection of president and officer bearers was held yesterday in Vadapalani. During this meeting, director Karu Palaniappan had made a fiery speech which turned out controversial.

Karu Palaniappan said that Bharathiraja had come to the working committee meeting of directors union only once, it is true that he had changed the face of Tamil cinema but that does not mean he has to be treated as God, and further added that he found lot of empty liquor bottles in directors union office and questioned if it was directors union or refreshment center.
