Kathi Mahesh arrested in middle of the night

Following the slapping of multiple cases against him for his "derogatory" remarks on Lord Rama and the epic Ramayana, film activist and critic Kathi Mahesh was arrested last night. He is now in the custody of Banjara Hills police, who had picked him up from his residence.

Sri Peetam pontiff Swami Paripoornananda had said on Monday that Kathi is "probably an agent to create tensions in society." He added that everybody should respect the Constitution and be responsible.

Several Hindu outfits had gone to the police in Saidabad, Vanasthalipuram, Kukatpally Housing Board and Banjara Hills, requesting that cases be slapped against Kathi under IPC Sections 295 and 505.
