On Monday, King Charles formally handed Prince Harry's old regiment to the Prince of Wales, therefore denying the Duke of Sussex one more. The 75-year-old king appointed Prince William colonel-in-chief of the Army Air Corps during a unique joint engagement at the Army Aviation Centre in Middle Wallop, south-east England.

Prince William is now in charge of the unit that his brother, an Apache helicopter pilot in Afghanistan, led. The New York Post reports that a Guard of Honor and Lieutenant General Sir Nicholas Borton, Colonel Commandant of the Army Air Corps, led the royal father-son pair to the Army Flying Museum during their historic visit.

King Charles dedicated a plaque honoring the arrival of the first Apache AH Mk1 to be on show in a UK museum as royal fans applauded at the military facility. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's three-day tour of Nigeria came to an end at the same time as this ceremony.

Following the officialities, Prince William and King Charles posed in front of the chopper, the latter showcasing his flying prowess by taking off in the Apache. Should Prince Harry have continued to be an involved part of the royal family, he would have been awarded this title. But Prince William was given this title after retiring from royal duties in 2020 and moving to the US with Meghan Markle.

This choice, which King Charles made in August of last year, is said to have had a profound impact on Prince Harry. Royal analyst Tom Quinn expressed his emotions in the Mirror, saying, "King Charles’ announcement... is a real kick in the teeth for the son who always felt marginalized and underrated."
